What Makes the Biobrimstone® Process Stand Apart
Biobrimstone® treatment technology is ideal for communities that want to make investments in wastewater processing in smaller, more affordable increments rather than constructing a large, expensive plant and then sitting with idle capacity until it becomes fully utilized. ERT’s system delivers the same or better per gallon processing costs as substantially larger traditional plants that must be constructed at size in order to benefit from scale economies. The ERT system can be economically installed in .25 - .50 MGD increments.
The Biobrimstone system differs from traditional treatment systems in a number of ways:
The Biobrimstone system differs from traditional treatment systems in a number of ways:
Requires Fewer Resources
- Fully enclosed, modular system operates in holding tanks - no need for settling ponds, easily scalable, rapidly deployable and inexpensive to get started
- Economical - most applications can be installed for 20-30% less expense than comparably sized traditional treatment systems
- Timely - requires 90-120 days to install (if permits are in place) compared to 18 months–2 years to construct a traditional system
- Efficient - occupies a small footprint: 1 acre vs. 5-20+ acres for traditional plants
Rapid Processing
- One to two-hour treatment cycle vs. 48 hours to 40 days for a traditional system
- Biobrimstone can be configured to disinfect solids to EPA Class “A” Standards
- Water content of sludge after Biobrimstone treatment is approximately 6% vs. 20-40% for traditional methods, eliminating the need for expensive supplemental drying and reducing haul away costs and landfill storage space requirements

Environmentally Friendly System
- Fully enclosed - no atmospheric emission of CO2, NO3, (NH4)2O, odor, etc.
- Polymer free - removes heavy metals and pharmaceuticals without using polymers
- Valuable output - effluent is nutrient rich, pH-balanced, irrigation-suitable water valuable for reducing the need for supplemental fertilizers when applied on agricultural crops, natural grasses or to grow biomass, all of which absorb CO2 and generate oxygen
- Flexible - Biobrimstone is programmable to adjust effluent to slight acidity in discharge water (similar to acid rain water with the pH of lemonade) for increasing soil percolation and sequestering additional CO2
- Other discharge options - Biobrimstone water can be readily polished with a biological treatment to meet standards for stream discharge
- Solids - the chemically dewatered and disinfected, separated solids are suitable as a biofuel (i.e. same BTU content as wood) or may be land applied as fertilizer
- Carbon credits - Biobrimstone retrofits should qualify for carbon credits where available, as they eliminate atmospheric CO2 emitting from traditional digesters
