Biobrimstone®: Revolutionizing the Water Treatment and Wastewater Industry
ERT's patented Biobrimstone® water and wastewater treatment processes use sulfur, lime, and other organic chemicals applied via modular package units to protect drinking water from chemical and pharmaceutical contaminants, and convert sewage and other industrial wastewaters into recovered water usable for a variety of agricultural and industrial purposes. ERT’s modular units are especially well suited to retrofit existing wastewater treatment plants to expand capacity, increase efficiency or raise processing standards. The Company’s system can also serve as a full, stand-alone treatment system where required.
ERT’s system can be installed quickly in an existing treatment facility (a “retrofit”), as the retrofit market generally does not require new EPA discharge permits. In many cases the system can be installed and operating in less than 90 days. A Biobrimstone® retrofit is especially attractive in plants currently in violation of EPA discharge standards to bring them into full compliance.
The Biobrimstone® system can also be customized for individual industrial and municipal wastewater treatment plant needs with the resulting recovered water specifically conditioned to fit locally required pH and environmental standards and conditions. When used for agricultural purposes, the disinfected, saline-balanced, nutrient-rich recovered wastewater provides a stable water source even in times of drought and reduces the need for additional fertilizers. Industrial solids are disinfected and may be used for cattle feed.
For aquifer recharging, Biobrimstone® treated water enhances soil aquifer treatment (SAT) systems by recharging groundwater with acidified, disinfected, recycled wastewater which opens soil pores for better water penetration and reduced annual maintenance costs.

Conclusion
Independent laboratory tests confirm that the ERT process disinfects both the liquid and solid fractions, removes heavy metals, de-waters solids (without the use of polymers) and accelerates aquifer recharge. The process also provides reclaimed water suitable for land application, agricultural use or stream discharge when combined with a biological component. ERT’s combined chem-bio technologies offer an energy-efficient, easy-to-use, rapidly deployable, modularized system to treat and reclaim combined black and gray wastewater streams which can be scaled up or down to meet a variety of water recovery and bio-solids requirements. The ERT system performs at a cost materially less than traditional systems of the same processing capacity while, at the same time, increasing flexibility and reducing adverse environmental impacts.
