Full Wastewater Treatment
ERT’s flagship application, Biobrimstone®, is a self-contained, modular system making use of the sequential application of sulfurous acid and lime to provide complete chemical disinfection and separation of both wastewater and solids through the use of chemical reduction and then rebalancing of the treatment stream pH. Total disinfection (<2 MPN) is accomplished without the use of chlorine or expensive U/V equipment. Solids separation, including removal of heavy metals and many PPCPs, is achieved without the use of polymers. The treated effluent is left nutrient rich, suitable for land application. Where open water release is targeted, application of a biological nitrogen reducer polishes the water for stream release.
The heart of the system is ERT’s proprietary sulfur burner, which burns pure raw prilled sulfur on site to produce sulfurous acid for use in the process. The generation of the acid on site as required, eliminates the need for storage or transportation of hazardous chemicals. ERT’s sulfur burner has been in use for more than 50 years at locations around the world.
Biobrimstone® can be installed in economical .25 MGD increments yet still deliver the operating economics of a much larger traditional wastewater treatment plant. The full Biobrimstone® system can generally be installed and operating in under 120 days. Operating in enclosed tanks, Biobrimstone® requires only a small footprint (under one acre) and emits almost no greenhouse gases or odors.
